Occupational Health & Safety

Health And Safety is much more than just a convenient catchphrase at Ranger. While many organisations struggle to keep pace with the evolving modern health and safety environment, our philosophy is to consistently exceed legislative requirements. As a main contractor we also demand the same high standards of other companies engaged to work on our projects, and our reputation for putting safety first is widely known and understood.

The Ranger Compliance Management System was developed in consultation with Total Managers Of Risk (Dunedin) Ltd and focuses on the continual improvement of workplace safety practices. The system's performance is monitored by a Compliance Team made up of management and staff representatives and administered by our Compliance Coordinator.

External expertise is utilised whenever necessary (such as for ensuring HSNO compliance) and an extensive staff training regime is in place. Regular company health and safety meetings provide a forum for discussion where staff are encouraged to raise concerns and suggest improvements.

All Staff

  • As a member of the Workplace Safety Management Practices programme our health and safety systems are externally audited by ACC. We are proud to currently hold tertiary accreditation under this scheme, one of only a few construction companies in New Zealand to have achieved this.
  • Alongside our own injury and accident prevention programme Ranger are also a member of Site Safe NZ Ltd. It is company policy that all foremen complete Site Safe Supervisor Gold Card training and that all other operational staff hold current Site Safe Construction Passports.
  • All Ranger employees are certified Approved Handlers. This provides them with the skills and knowledge needed to safely work with, transport and dispose of hazardous substances used in the workplace, as required by the Hazardous Substances And New Organisms Act.
  • Staff are also required to hold current First Aid certificates and be inducted as Approved Fonterra Contractors.

Just as the colour yellow in the Ranger branding reflects the safety tape used on construction sites, Ranger represent the changing face of the industry it works in.
