FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between polished concrete and terrazzo bench tops?
A: Concrete is your local aggregate mixed with grey or coloured cement, and terrazzo is coloured marble chip mixed with coloured cement.

Q: Do we need to have special cabinets made for our bench tops?
A: You need to let your kitchen designer or joiner know what type of bench top you are having so they can reinforce the cabinetry, as concrete bench tops are heavy.

Q: Do I have to specify the sink and hob I want in my kitchen?
A: YES! We need your hob, sink and any other appliances at our factory in order to make moulds for the correct cut out sizes and shapes.

Q: Can my bench be any thickness, or do you have a standard measurement?
A: Standard bench tops are 60mm thick. You can go to down to 40mm thick if you have no cut-outs for sinks or hobs etc, and if you prefer a thicker bench top this can be achieved also.

Please note: A greater thickness will add weight to your bench.

Q: What type of edging can I have?
A: Generally the bench tops have a chamfered edge on the top and bottom, but you can have a pencil-round top and chamfer bottom edge, or a pencil round top & bottom, but take into account these will alter the cost of the bench.

Q: What about staining?
A: We apply a penetrating sealer to our bench tops called Akemi which helps repeal moisture. We have Tanson Care Kits that have the sealer, and a stain removing paste included. These are available through Tanson.

Q: Do you install your products?
A: Our qualified Tanson installers will fit your tops/hearths after a site visit to ascertain a price based on location/accessibility and complexity of the job.

Q: How far in advance should I order my concrete/Terrazzo top?
A: You should discuss with your kitchen planner, but we require a minimum of 8 weeks to ensure the concrete and grout has set and cured.

Please be aware some times of the year are busier than others – especially November and December.

Q: Do you offer an after care service?
A: Yes. We recommend the Tanson Care Kits (your first is complimentary) should you have any queries with your bench we are happy to help.
